What is CBCT?

Balla-Dent's latest and most modern technical device is a so called CbCT, a panoramic and telephoto X-ray. We can confidently state that this machine has taken our dental care to the next level. Using the tool, we can not only capture a 2D image of the teeth and its surrounding tissues but it also enables us to examine, rotate, zoom in and analyse every single little detail in a precise 3D image.

But what exactly is CbCT and in what cases can it be used?

CbCT combines traditional two-dimensional panorama technology with CT imaging to create a personalised imaging with modern 3D face scanning. This allows us to get much more detailed information about our teeth, make a more accurate diagnosis and as a result plan the most appropriate treatment. The captured image allows us to examine dental structures, soft tissues, neural pathways, and bones even better.

The first cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) device was introduced to the European market in 1997 for dental use. In the following years they immediately realised that it can be utilised in various ways.

Egy felvétel elkészítése csupáIt takes only a few seconds longer than taking a picture with a panoramic X-ray, however it shows the area you want to examine to the nearest hundredth of a millimeter. The device is capable of capturing 150-200 images from different angles in less than a minute. These pictures make up the final 3-dimensional image. The procedure is convenient, painless and we protect you against radiation by providing a lead apron.

The emergence and development of CBCT have introduced an imaging procedure that is faster, has a lower radiation dosage and creates higher-contrast scans than a traditional CT. It captures information in three dimensions using a limited field of view. This is a relatively new diagnostic imaging technology which has only been recently added to endodontic imaging devices. megjelenése és fejlődése egy, a hagyományos CT-nél gyorsabb, alacsonyabb dózisú, nagy kontrasztú képalkotási módot vezetett be, amely három dimenzióban rögzíti az információkat egy korlátozott látómező segítségével.  Ez egy viszonylag új diagnosztikai képalkotási mód, amelyet nemrégiben adtak hozzá az endodonciai képalkotó eszközökhöz.

Provides the most detailed image at the best resolution.

The most excellent dental applicability of CBCT is given because the structure of the dental and anatomical formulas can be viewed in all three anatomical planes. This capability allows you to visualise lesions around the root apex and root changes. This feature provides a broader view of all problems that may arise during endodontic care, thus laying the foundation for the most accurate treatment plan. The course of the entire canal system becomes visible, and it is possible to localise any issues even more precisely. Not only the inlet is as visible as with dental microscopes, but the whole canal system can be mapped and traced.

3D imaging procedures also play an essential role in oral surgeries' safe and well-designed execution. Whether it is the surgical removal of an impacted (bone-stuck) wisdom tooth, the analysis of the neural tract around the tooth, the supply of bone before implantation, or the precise planning of a possible bone replacement, an operation without CbCT imaging could not only be irresponsible but dangerous.

Applying CbCt scans at our clinic can fasten creating the most accurate treatment plans. As a result, our patients do not have to go to an external site, make an other appointment, or even queue for a CT scan. Instead, the desired treatment is available in one place, can be analysed immediately, and even performed directly.
