Endodontics is a highly specialized field within conservative dentistry that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of dental pulp and its supporting structures. Our skilled dentists utilize endodontic treatments to rescue damaged teeth and alleviate pain. Once the infected area is treated, the original form and appearance of the tooth can be restored with a filling or crown.
Endodontics
During root canal treatment, we penetrate the pulp through the hard tissues with the goal of cleaning the canal pathways from infection, removing the nerve, and finally sealing it with root filling to achieve an infection-free canal. It is always recommended to keep restorations in mind when planning the final treatment of the teeth, as a well-sealed crown or inlay can prevent the "death" of root-treated teeth, and crown fractures.
It is important to know that root canal treatment does not guarantee automatic success in preserving the tooth; it is only a therapy that can help save the tooth in question. However, thanks to the advancements in endodontics, new tools and technologies have emerged that allow us to save teeth with greater efficiency, all while providing faster and pain-free treatments.
Mechanical root expanders, which allow for faster and more accurate work, thus reducing treatment time, making the procedure more comfortable for patients, and lowering the risk of tooth infection. The material and shape of the needles used in root canal treatment have also changed, enabling us to easily and quickly clean even the most difficult-to-reach root canals.
Apex locators, which help us accurately measure the length of the tooth canals, ensuring that we can reach the apex and the area of inflammation without unnecessarily stressing the surrounding tissues of the tooth.
CBCTs, which create three-dimensional images of the teeth and their canal systems, with radiation doses significantly lower than those of traditional CT scans.
